Both the Charges and Payment graph show similar growth over the four year period, indicating
a consistent ability to receive requested payment. Payments are, however, historically lower
than original charges by an average of approximately 35%.
It’s also interesting to note the sharp increase in charges and payments for CPT® codes 99211,
99213, and 99214, consistent with the general growth in utilization of these codes. Medicare
statistics support the idea that Established Office Visits and Subsequent Nursing Facility
Care are two areas of interest and increased activity for the medical coder.
